IT Training @ Lefke Gazi Lisesi in Lefke

After a workshop Ildeniz and I presented @ GAU last year, I was approached by some teachers from Lefke Gazi Lisesi to do workshops regarding the use of some programs like powerpoint, swish, games-html, learning management systems - Edmodo, presenter 7 and so on. They wanted such workshops so that they can use the newly purchased and installed "Smartboard" technology more effectively in their teaching.

  1. Personally, I am skeptical about the 'value for money' that 'smartboards' offer in a classroom. Although this was written over a year ago, I haven't seen any research to show that IWBs actually produce better performing students when compared to teachers who don't use IWBs. See http://donaldclarkplanb.blogspot.com/2010/12/whiteboards-white-stuff-or-black-holes.html Nevertheless, when a teachers has an IWB foisted upon them as a result of some well-meaning EU bureaucrat, it is good to see that you are providing some guidance on how to use them. Still, I can't help but think that IWBs will join the Language Labs of yesteryear in the heap of 'nice idea, but didn't really work'. Perhaps I will be proven wrong...the actual SMARTBOARD company is Canadian, after all. However, so is RIM and the Blackberry...whose days also seem numbered. ;)
